The Other Melodies

It all begins with an idea.

One day soon, you will work with the biggest artist, producers, and songwriters. The Practice I’m sharing with you today will become one of your greatest tools in your Music Toolbox. I want to give you a practice of mine that I’ve been doing in my life, for years! It allows me to create hit toplines, almost always.

Let’s talk Melodies!

& I’m not just talking about the rhythmic melodies of our songs, but the melodies of our every day lives. The rhythm of our mornings, our conversations, our thoughts and our habits.

A melody in a song can stick to our memory so tightly that we find ourselves humming it all day. Have you ever considered how one wrong conversation, or seeing one wrong post, could stick to us just as tightly, following us throughout our day?

We hear fitness gurus’s talk about how training our bodies can help us be better and stronger mentally, so today I am showing you how to train the rhythm of your own inner voice to to be a better and stronger topliner.

MY PRACTICE

Before every trip to South Korea, I do a mini fast. It isn’t a religious thing! It’s a connecting thing. I prepare for a Music Camp that can last up to ten days! That’s ten days of Intensive Writing, Intensive Creating, and Intensive Collaborating!

I have to be on my A game!

So leading up to my trips, 3 days prior, I stay away from certain foods, certain television shows and listening to certain music. Why? Because I want my mind and my heart to be clear, to be connected! I want to be able to hear my highest frequency of melodies. Heaven’s melodies. How can I do that if I’m scrolling until the very last minute of arriving at the studio? I can’t. You can’t.

Your outside world is shaping your melodies more than you even realize. Have you ever noticed how some of our biggest Superstars go into hiding when they’re doing an album? How we don’t hear from them or see them? They are on their own version of a fast. They are changing what they see (Social Media) Changing what they hear (Conversations and Gossiping) and trading it for focus, stillness and clearing. Why? Because that’s where they will hear their greatest sounds and ultimately create their biggest songs. & it’s the same for you!

THE EXERCISE (6 minutes total)

I want you to do a version of fasting (Not 3 days!)

Just 3 minutes.

Let’s fast from outside noise and learn to control and hear the inner voice.

PART ONE: Sit still, Indian style, taking 3 deep breaths in and then repeating “My mind is free My heart is is clear and I can hear heaven’s melodies. My mind is free My heart is clear and I can hear heavens melodies.” Breathe again. Pause. Then Repeat. Do this for 3 minutes.

PART TWO: After you have finished part one, think of a subject matter to write about “love, friendship, heartbreak…” whatever you choose, and take another 3 minutes to just let the melodies flow. Make sure there is very little time between your 3 minutes of sitting and 3 minutes of melody flowing. (Consider Voicenoting what comes out)

This practice isn’t to a track…

This practice is for the purpose of training the inner voice to connect to the outter sound… which will ultimately be your biggest hits.
