5 Ways You Probably Didn’t Know You Could Make Money as a Singer & Songwriter

  1. Soundbetter! Soundbetter is a platform that allows producers (and others) to collaborate with singers and songwriters to finish their songs, for a fee! You can set your rate and always negotiate from there. Remember to upload your best songs so your songs will stand out when they listen for potential collaborators.

  2. Offer your Home Studio to friends & family. If you have a great studio set up, share it with others… for a small fee of course! Charge $25 an hour to record your friends podcast, songs, and productions. Remember to let them know their money is going towards you building your dream life! Usually, this makes people more than happy to support you… as well as get what they need too!

  3. Place a Song on TV & Film through Sync and Licensing. Placing a song on an artist is not the only way to get your music into the world. & it’s definitely not always the highest paying way. Music for TV & Film , better known as Sync and Licensing, is such a great avenue for Singers and Songwriters. For example, if your music is fresh, current and young, try pitching to FreeForm’s Sync & Licensing Department!

  4. Vocal Producing, even if you didn’t write the song. Artist and Labels are always looking for Vocal Production on songs that may only have a Topline. If you have a talent in harmonies and coloring a song after the Topline is done, you could be getting paid for that service alone! Yes, even if you didn’t write the song. Be sure to play up your Vocal Producing abilities on your Social Media and Music Resume.

  5. Pitching to a Smaller Artist for a lower songwriting fee. Try to find upcoming artist who are looking for songs, but may only have a small budget while they are still growing. Agree to write a song for them for a lower rate. For example, maybe you only charge them $300 instead of $3000. Remember you would still keep your Publishing for writing the song as well, but that money only comes if the song does well. So even if it doesn’t, in the least, you were paid for your time and you helped an upcoming artist along the way!
